Stewart, Martin & McCoy’s three principals all have designations from the leading professional organizations in the real estate industry. Jim Stewart holds the coveted CCIM designation from the CCIM Institute; I. Jarvis Martin holds the esteemed SRA designation from the Appraisal Institute; and
Kirk McCoy holds the venerable MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute and the CCIM designation from the CCIM Institute. In addition, Kirk McCoy is seeking the CCIM designation. Over the past 20 years the principals have held leadership positions and won numerous awards from the various real estate organizations, realtor associations and other community groups.

PRINCIPAL
James A. Stewart (Jim) is a principal in the real estate brokerage and appraisal firm of Stewart, Martin and McCoy, LLC, located in Durham, NC. The firm, organized in 2015, is the result of joining forces with two other colleagues to form a full-service real estate company. Jim focuses on commercial real estate brokerage which he has done since 1997. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (1970) and an MBA (2009), both degrees from NC State University. Prior to becoming active in real estate, Jim was employed by IBM Corporation from which he retired, serving in many varied roles in the telecommunications industry, from engineering to marketing. He also served for four years on active duty as an officer with the U.S. Army. Jim actively serves NC State University and the Durham community. He currently serves as chairman of the board of directors of M&F Bank and its parent company, M&F Bancorp, Inc. He has served on the boards of many Triangle non-profits including the Triangle Community Foundation and the boards of the YMCA of the Triangle and its Durham Advisory Board. He served on the boards of the Emily Krzyzewski Center and the Boys and Girls Club of Durham and Orange Counties, and he currently serves on the Vestry of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church where he is the church’s Treasurer. In March of 2019, NC State University awarded Jim the Watauga Medal for his service and contributions to the university. The Watauga Medal is the university’s highest non-academic honor.
PRINCIPAL
Jarvis Martin, SRA is a State Certified General Appraiser with over 40 years of real estate experience.
Since 1975, Jarvis has owned and operated Martin & Company, a general appraisal firm providing
appraisal and consulting services to local banks, mortgage companies, relocation firms, local and state government, accountants and attorneys. His scope of work includes appraising residential, small income producing properties, condemnation work, expert testimony for rezoning property, and court cases. In 2015, Jarvis partnered with Jimmy Stewart and Kirk McCoy to form Stewart, Martin & McCoy, LLC.
He has over 40 years of experience in renovating single family and multifamily properties for resale and long-term hold for capital appreciation. Working with a partner, he has built or renovated over 250 rental units using federal and state tax credits, and community block grant funds. He is a mentor to several young real estate investors, looking for knowledge, experience and financial assistance with flipping properties or buying and holding properties to build personal wealth.

Community & Charitable Involvement:
Durham has been a very rewarding community toward the success of his business and family. Due to this fact, Jarvis and his wife, Norma, are very involved and supported of a number of local, state and national non- profit, social or educational organizations. They have donated over $60,000 to the North Carolina
Central University School of Business to have two classrooms named in honor of their parents. Jarvis’s parents only had a 4 th grade education but had four of six children to attend college. Norma’s mother graduated from NCCU in the early 50’s. They have plans to establish scholarships at the NCCU School of Business in honor people who were very instrumental in their careers. Jarvis and his wife of 41 years Norma B. Martin have one daughter Natasha Martin Young, a son in law Ned Young three grandchildren

Kirk McCoy II is a principal in the firm of Stewart, Martin & McCoy, LLC a North Carolina based real estate firm. Kirk is a State Certified General Appraiser with over 10 years of commercial real estate appraisal and brokerage experience. His knowledge and experience with a variety of assets is a major competitive advantage for Stewart, Martin & McCoy’s clients. By offering essential front-end insight on values and the opportunities and/or challenges those value may present in complex real estate transactions, his clients are able to move much more expeditiously through the planning and execution phases of transactions, often avoiding costly delays and financial projection errors. Prior to starting Stewart, Martin & McCoy, Kirk was a Senior Director with Cushman & Wakefield. As a Senior Director with Cushman & Wakefield’s Valuation & Advisory group, Kirk led valuation professionals responsible for appraisal, tax appeal, and consulting assignments across the southeastern United States. He is qualified as an expert witness in tax appeal hearings, and litigation cases. He appraised and consulted on over $4 billion in commercial real estate assets across the southeastern United States. Previous to Cushman & Wakefield, he was a member of the multifamily acquisitions group at Enterprise Social Investment Corporation in Columbia, MD.Kirk earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Florida A&M University and a MBA from Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also holds the prestigious MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute.Kirk gives back to his community through active participation on the Global Scholars Academy Board, Triangle Chapter of the Appraisal Institute and numerous volunteer events around the Triangle area.
